    This is a very special stencil because it is a pattern used in the the earliest surviving example of katazome, the fabric on a pair of gauntlets from the 1300s. It shows up almost 300 years late, again, on a yukatabira belonging to Tokugawa Ieyasu, and finally 300 more years later on this antique stencil.
