This is a charming stencil of what I suspect is a crow on a nondescript branch. I’m not sure what this design was used for; since it doesn’t repeat, it could be for an obi, a detail section on a garment, or a utility item.
This stencil also uses a thread laying technique I’ve never seen before where holes are made in the stencil itself and the thread is pulled through them. This seems like it would create problems if paste leaked through the hole, so perhaps it’s only viable for surizome stencils?
