[流水に紅葉] Maple Leaf River

Here’s another fall stencil, maple leaves floating in the river or stream. This is a very cleverly constructed stencil; it needs no gauze because the pattern is its mesh. If you have intermediate experience and hate gauzing, this might be the stencil for you!

I notice that in many stencils, both the negative and the positive (white and colored) of the object. This is one such stencil, and I think it’s a thoughtful way to explore both the silhouettes and the coloration of a natural form.

I did get this vectorized and I got it to repeat, but it’s not perfect and the lines aren’t perfectly straight. For some of these stripe stencils, redrawing may be the best option, because the warpage of age does more noticeable distortion to the pattern than to an organic design. The SVG is available on my patreon.
