[柿紋の花立涌] Persimmon Flower Tatewaku (Rising Steam)

Tatewaku (立涌) is a traditional motif that was introduced from China via the silk road; it’s a very common pattern for Heian period court garments. Its waves represent rising steam or water vapor. There are many variations with different designs interlaced between the waves. This particular motif has what I believe are persimmon flowers in between the rising waves.

I have restored this pattern, removed the moth holes, and the vector should repeat fully – it’s available on my patreon. This is a classic design that would dye beautifully in indigo or hikizome – how about kakishibu?
